Burgundy acrylic

Whilst at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale I purchased 50g of a burgundy coloured crinkley acrylic yarn which I thought I could weave into an interesting scarf. Unfortunately the length of yarn restricted me to only a short 10cm wide warp. I used a light coloured possum/merino mix as the weft. The result is a short narrow scarf 1280mm x 90mm weighing 57g. The crinkle of the warp is only visible in the two fringes. Elsewhere an interesting mottled pattern is seen. I will test the public reaction to it at the Perth Upmarket at UWA on 2 October.

Salmon and orange silk

In getting ready for spring and summer I have woven two silk scarves. The first is coloured salmon and is 1730mm x 200mm and only weighs 45g. It does have a pattern but it is hard to see. The second scarf is in an orange coloured crinkley silk woven in tabby. It is 1650mm x 185mm and weighs 60g.Both scarves will be on sale on my stall at the Perth Upmarket 2 October at UWA.

People's scarf

Last weekend I had a stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale to sell my woven scarfs. My stall was called The Woven Warren.As part of my display I had a small table loom (RHS of photo) on which visitors to the Carnivale could "have a go". They choose a yarn from a selection and wove about 5cm each. In all, 23 visitors took part and at the end of the Carnivale a winner was drawn from the bundle of entry cards by the Queen (of the Medieval Carnivale).Congratulations to Rowan Seton, from Kojonup, on being the winner of the People's Scarf. It is 1340mm x 190mm and weighs 87g. I hope you enjoy wearing your unique colourful scarf Rowan.

Wild raspberry and Kingfisher cashmere

Two more cashmere scarves have been woven using hand-dyed Kogane 2/20 yarn. The first is coloured Kingfisher and is 1750mm x 205mm and weighs 80g.The second is in Wild Raspberry and is 1750mm x 195mm and weighs 76g.Both scarves will be on sale on my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

Galah and Crab Apple cashmere

Two more lovely soft cashmere scarves have been woven in hand-dyed Kogane 2/20 yarn. The first, coloured galah, is 1750mm x 195mm and weighs 82g.The second, in a crab apple coloured dye, is 1810mm x 195mm and weighs 79g.Both scarves will be on sale on my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

Hand-dyed cashmere

Since returning from a three-week holiday in the Eastern States (of Australia) I have woven two more cashmere scarves using hand-dyed 2/20 yarn from Kogane. The first is 1630mm x 200mm, weighs 78g and in Ivy. The second is 1790mm x 190mm, weighs 77g and in Kingfisher. It is actually more greener than the colour displayed.Both scarves will be for sale on my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

Light brown alpaca

My latest two scarves are in a light brown (fawn) 4-ply alpaca yarn from Shamwani Alpaca stud in Western Australia. Both are in the same pattern but slightly different lengths. I was trying for 1800mm and 1600mm but the second one became longer as I used up all the available warp. The first is 1840mm x 215mm and weighs 141g, whilst the second is 1740mm x 205mm and weighs 133g.Both scarves will be for sale on my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

White Australian Alpaca

Have woven two scarves using a white 100% Australian Alpaca 4-ply yarn from Tailored Strands. The two scarves are identical and measure 1800mm x 195mm and weighs 124g.They will both be on sale on my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

Green Italian alpaca

Some more yarn left over from a knitting project has been woven into a scarf. The yarn was a 4-ply from Laines du Nord, called Ciliegia, and is green in colour. It is woven in a lace like pattern. The scarf is 1800mm x 230mm and weighs 157g.It has been claimed by the knitter to match the jumper she has just completed.

Brown woollen scarves

I have woven two interesting scarves in a tabby weave using a Diamuseefine MSF109 yarn. In the first one I have used this yarn for both the warp and the weft. It is 1880mm x 215mm and weighs 97g. For the second I used a white possum/merino yarn as the warp and the MSF109 yarn as the weft. It is 1740mm x 205mm and weighs 84g.Both scarves will be on sale on my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

Multicoloured Indian Silk

As something different I have woven two scarves using a multicoloured Indian Silk yarn. The first is woven using an hand-dyed blue wool/silk yarn as the warf and is 1580mm x 210mm and weighs 166g. For the second I used three coloured 2-ply cashmere (maroon, orange and peachy) from Knitter's Addiction as the warf. This scarf is 1630mm x 170mm and weighs 132g. Both scarves are very chunky but also very soft. The first has already been "claimed" but the second will be on sale at my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

Noro Silk Garden

I have used up 100g of Noro Silk Garden (Fine) yarn from a knitting project by weaving a scarf in tabby (plain) weave. The interest lies in the colours of the yarn, not in a pattern. The scarf is 1610mm x 165mm and weighs 88g.

It looks great with the knitted garment so it is not available for sale!

Two Yarns from Wells

Whilst on holiday recently in the UK I purchased two 50g balls of fancy synthetic yarns from a stall at the Wells (Somerset) Saturday market.
I have used the yarns as warps and a black wool yarn as the wefts in open weave tabby. Lightweight summer scarves have resulted, or rather, a fashion accessory with no warmth. The first scarf is 1690mm x 230mm and weighs 60g. The second scarf is 1650mm x 250mm and weighs 57g.Both scarves will be on my stall at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale 27-28 August.

Perth Upmarket

Had a successful stall at the Perth Upmarket on Sunday 26 June at UWA. You can see me and my stall in the following photo and also a close-up of my cashmere and alpaca scarves.

Wild raspberry and cyclamin cashmere

Have just completed two more scarves in time for the Perth Upmarket on 26 June at UWA.

The first is in a hand-dyed wild raspberry colour using a 4-ply cashmere yarn from Knitter's Addition. It is 1900mm x 190mm and weighs 128g.

The second is in a hand-dyed cyclamin colour using a 2/20 cashmere yarn from Japan. It is 1910mm x 200mm and weighs 80g. This is a really soft cashmere and the scarf is long and in an interesting colour.

Both scarves are in the same pattern, but the pattern is hard to see in the second scarf since the yarn has nicely fluffed up (or slightly felted).
