Teal and mid-grey alpaca handwoven scarves

Returning to my choice of Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca yarns I have hand-woven two more scarves using the teal, and the mid-grey, colours.  The first one is in solid teal and measures 1860mm x 220mm and weighs 144g.  The second in teal and mid-grey is 1910mm x 215mm and weighs 148g.  Although I have used the same pattern for both it is interesting to see how the pattern is highlighted when using the two colours.  For clarification, the teal colour is best shown in the two colour scarf; a colour saturation problem with the detector.  These are two lovely long, soft feeling scarves to keep you warm on those cold days (and nights).

Four hand-woven scarves using Noro Mossa yarns

Noro yarns are very popular because of their range of vibrant colours and the banding effect they give in the finished item.  Whilst in York, UK, recently I purchased four different colour lots of Noro Mossa yarns.  This is a yarn with 52% wool, 16% viscose, 11% mohair, 11% silk, and 10% polyamide  and gives rise to very interesting textures.  I have now hand-woven these yarns into four different scarves using Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca as the warp.  I have used emerald, claret, lichen and lavender coloured alpaca yarns separately to match the colours in the different coloured Noro Mossa yarns.  The result is four multi-coloured banded , bulky feeling and soft, scarves.  Each is nominally 1800mm x 200mm and weighs approximately 160g.  What a lovely accessory to go with your latest outfit.

Bilberry and wisteria Tailored Strands alpaca scarves

I find that Tailored Strands 4-ply alpaca yarn, which is 100% Australian alpaca, is great to weave and results in beautiful soft feeling scarves.  I have just completed two hand-woven scarves using their yarns.  The first is in the solid colour bilberry and the scarf is 1800mm x 220mm and weighs 147g. In the second I used the bilberry coloured yarn as the warp and wisteria as the weft.  This mixed combination highlights the pattern and gives the scarf a lighter tone on one side and a darker emphasis on the other.  This scarf is 1750mm x 210mm and weighs 138g.

Tailored Strands emeral alpaca hand-woven scarf

For those that like to "buy Australian" I have hand-woven two identical scarves using Tailored Strands 4-ply, emerald coloured, Australian alpaca yarn.  This is a lovely soft yarn as you would expect from alpaca, with an interesting pattern, and emerald green colour.  If green is your colour then this should be for you.  One scarf is 1800mm x 220mm and weighs 156g whilst the second is 1720mm x 220mm and weighs 148g.

Handwoven scarf from hand painted alpaca/mulberry silk

On my  recent holiday to the UK I purchased 100g of a hand-painted alpaca/mulberry silk 70/30 yarn at the Fairfield Mill in Yorkshire.  I have hand-woven this yarn into a neat, colourful, scarf of 1340mm x 160mm weighing 92g.  If you are looking for a small, soft, colourful scarf this is for you.

Cleckheaton Nature Wool Boucle handwoven grey and black scarves

Continuing with my stock of Cleckheaton Nature Wool Boucle I have hand-woven two scarves in a grey and black mix.  Again the woven pattern is not visible due to the looped yarn but the mottled colours of grey and black, and the texture of the yarn, results in an interesting scarf.  Bulky but soft, these two scarves will be a pleasure to wear on those cold nippy days.  One is 1580mm x 200mm and weighs 157g whilst the other is 1800mm x 200mm and weighs 172g.

More woolen boucle hand-woven scarves

I have used the left-over yarns from two previous scarves hand-woven in Cleckheaton nature wool boucle.  The first, a navy blue and black mix, #1899, is 1450mm x 185mm and weighs 140g.  The second, a blue and grey mix, #1893, is 1700mm x 180mm and weighs 153g.  They are both woven in the same pattern as before but the bulkiness of the looped yarn hides the pattern.  These are two lovely soft feeling scarves and would make a good his and her's winter wear.

Navy blue and black handwoven woolen scarf

I have used Cleckheaton Nature Wool Boucle #1899 yarn, a 100% Australian wool, to handweave a bulky feeling, but soft, warm scarf.  The woven pattern is hard to discern due to the texture provided by the looped yarn.  The navy blue and black colouring of this yarn would be suitable for both a man and a woman.  The size is 1770mm x 220mm and weighs 195g.  I am tempted to keep it myself but it will probably be on sale soon at Aspects of Kings Park or The Artisan Store Fremantle.

Two baby blankets

Some one has let out  of the bag that I can expect a new grand-daughter in two or three weeks time.  Consequently I have been busy weaving not one, but two, baby blankets - one in use and one in the wash.  Yes, I know it is a girl, but the mum likes blue.  Amazingly, I started with 400g of blue and 200g of white, and just managed to finish with a metre or two of each colour remaining.  One blanket is 930mm x 810mm and weighs 296g, whilst the second is 800mm x 810mm and weighs 255g.

Am now waiting to visit the mum and new born, and, of course, the new dad.

Handwoven scarf using Eisaku Noro Big Bebe yarn

Eisaku Noro Big Bebe #11 yarn is multi-coloured with light green, light grey and dark, medium and light browns.  It is a yarn made with a smooth  finish but of varying thickness and consists of 38% cotton, 29% ramise, 29% wool and 4% nylon.  I  have used a lichen coloured Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca as the warp and the Eisaku Noro yarn as the weft. 

This is a light coloured, spring looking, but bulky scarf with a mainly cotton feel.  The scarf is heavy at 290g but is a good size of 1800mm x 200mm.  It will be great for those chilly spring days.

Handwoven Noro Cotton Hill scarf

Looking through my store of yarns I picked out some balls of Noro Cotton Hill #2 yarn.  This is an interesting loopy textured yarn made from 60% cotton, 14% silk, 14% kid mohair and 12% wool.  The #2 yarn has greys, black and brown colours.  Although woven in a pattern the numerous loop and colours dominant in this bulky but soft feeling scarf.  It is not light, being 188g but is a good size at 1800mm x 220mm.  A man's scarf or how about matching it with a bright coloured, say green, outfit?

Hand-woven scarves using Eisaku Noro yarns

I found a small amount of Eisaku Noro N-1 yarn in my store so have used it to hand weave two scarves.  The yarn is a multi-coloured thick yarn (1g = 1.8m) in 100% wool.
In the first I have used the Eisaku Noro yarn as both the warp and the weft.  A mottled, multi-coloured, bulky scarf is the outcome being 1740mm x 200mm and weighing 176g.

In the second I used the Eisaku Noro yarn as the warp with a teal coloured Tailored Strands Australian alpaca 4-ply yarn as the weft.  The woven pattern is visible in this scarf which at 1600mm x 200mm and weighing 139g is lighter than the first because of the thinner weft.  I must admit that the weft in this scarf is more green than the colour in the photos - I still need my colour photography tuition.
