Noro Mossa #13 hand-woven scarves

Christmas is coming so I have the scarf for you!
I have hand-woven Noro Mossa #13 yarn on a claret coloured Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca warp.  With mainly red and green tones in the Noro Mossa yarn the scarves features the typical stripeing associated with these yarns superimposed over the woven horizontal chevron pattern.
Two virtually identical scarves, nominally 1800mm x 200mm and weighing 160g, which are bulky but with a soft touch, to keep you warm this Christmas (well the summer tourist from the Northern Hemisphere).

Noro Mossa #18 hand-woven scarf

I now have a new supply of Noro Mossa yarns so have hand-woven colour #18 with a lavender Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca warp in a conventional manner.  The result is horizontal strips of the multi-coloured Noro Mossa yarn with the imprint of a background pattern.

A colourful soft feeling bulky scarf of 1840mm x 200mm and weighing 154g containing wool, viscose, mohair, silk and nylon together with alpaca.

Mosaic Noro Mossa hand-woven scarf

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to go on a coach tour to Central Australia and one place we visited was the Painted Desert out of Coober Pedy - numerous conical hillocks of various colours.
I have used my left-over Noro Mossa yarns to weave a mosaic pattern and the final fabulous colourful scarf reminds me of my Painted Desert experience.
For the record Noro Mossa yarns are made up of 52% wool, 16% viscose, 11% mohair, 11% silk, 10% nylon whilst the warp is from Tailored Strands 4-ply grey alpaca yarn.  And it is a long scarf being 1930mm x 215mm and weighs 166g.
What a spectacular scarf, can I be persuaded to part with it?  Who knows!

Lichen and emerald Tailored Strands alpaca scarves

With spring in the air we can see the new green in the budding leaves that progressively darkens during its life.  I have tried to emulate this using the lichen and emerald colours of Tailored Strands 4-ply alpaca yarns.  Hand-woven in an intriguing pattern you can sense the new growth of spring.

Wisteria and wisteria/lavender alpaca handwoven scarves

With spring in the air I have chosen wisteria and lavender colours for my next scarves.  Using Tailored Strands 4-ply alpaca yarns I have woven one in the single colour of wisteria and the other in a mixture of wisteria and lavender.  I have used the same pattern for both with the pattern being highlighted when using the two colours.  Two soft luxurious scarves in an interesting pattern and both being nominally 1800mm x 210mm and weighing 133g.

Mango Tailored Strands alpaca hand-woven scarves

I have chosen the mango coloured Tailored Strands 100% Australian Alpaca 4-ply yarn for my latest hand-woven scarves.  This rich colour may not be to everybodies liking but with the right outfit it could look stunning.  You would have a lovely soft and warm accessory for those cold spring mornings.  Hand-woven in an interesting pattern the two available scarves are nominally 1700mm x 210mm and weigh 134g.

Claret and mid-grey Tailored Strands alpaca scarves

A popular colour mix is claret and grey.  I have used these two colours from the range of Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca yarns to hand weave two identical scarves.  Both are nominally 1800mm x 215mm and weighs 144g.  Will they match your outfit?  They are both very soft and sure to keep you warm.

Teal and mid-grey alpaca handwoven scarves

Returning to my choice of Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca yarns I have hand-woven two more scarves using the teal, and the mid-grey, colours.  The first one is in solid teal and measures 1860mm x 220mm and weighs 144g.  The second in teal and mid-grey is 1910mm x 215mm and weighs 148g.  Although I have used the same pattern for both it is interesting to see how the pattern is highlighted when using the two colours.  For clarification, the teal colour is best shown in the two colour scarf; a colour saturation problem with the detector.  These are two lovely long, soft feeling scarves to keep you warm on those cold days (and nights).

Four hand-woven scarves using Noro Mossa yarns

Noro yarns are very popular because of their range of vibrant colours and the banding effect they give in the finished item.  Whilst in York, UK, recently I purchased four different colour lots of Noro Mossa yarns.  This is a yarn with 52% wool, 16% viscose, 11% mohair, 11% silk, and 10% polyamide  and gives rise to very interesting textures.  I have now hand-woven these yarns into four different scarves using Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca as the warp.  I have used emerald, claret, lichen and lavender coloured alpaca yarns separately to match the colours in the different coloured Noro Mossa yarns.  The result is four multi-coloured banded , bulky feeling and soft, scarves.  Each is nominally 1800mm x 200mm and weighs approximately 160g.  What a lovely accessory to go with your latest outfit.

Bilberry and wisteria Tailored Strands alpaca scarves

I find that Tailored Strands 4-ply alpaca yarn, which is 100% Australian alpaca, is great to weave and results in beautiful soft feeling scarves.  I have just completed two hand-woven scarves using their yarns.  The first is in the solid colour bilberry and the scarf is 1800mm x 220mm and weighs 147g. In the second I used the bilberry coloured yarn as the warp and wisteria as the weft.  This mixed combination highlights the pattern and gives the scarf a lighter tone on one side and a darker emphasis on the other.  This scarf is 1750mm x 210mm and weighs 138g.

Tailored Strands emeral alpaca hand-woven scarf

For those that like to "buy Australian" I have hand-woven two identical scarves using Tailored Strands 4-ply, emerald coloured, Australian alpaca yarn.  This is a lovely soft yarn as you would expect from alpaca, with an interesting pattern, and emerald green colour.  If green is your colour then this should be for you.  One scarf is 1800mm x 220mm and weighs 156g whilst the second is 1720mm x 220mm and weighs 148g.

Handwoven scarf from hand painted alpaca/mulberry silk

On my  recent holiday to the UK I purchased 100g of a hand-painted alpaca/mulberry silk 70/30 yarn at the Fairfield Mill in Yorkshire.  I have hand-woven this yarn into a neat, colourful, scarf of 1340mm x 160mm weighing 92g.  If you are looking for a small, soft, colourful scarf this is for you.
