Schachenmayr Winter Ombre and alpaca handwoven scarf

When in Andorra recently I could not resist purchasing 150g of Schachenmayr Winter Ombre yarn.  This is a 80% acrylic, 20% wool mix with interesting tones of light blue, gold and silver (OK you colour connoisseurs it maybe tan and grey but I am trying to promote my scarf!) spun into a single twist of varying thickness.
I have hand-woven this yarn as the weft on a warp of seachange coloured 4-ply Tailored Strands Australian alpaca.  The two blues are very similar so I have a scarf with interesting bands of subtle colours on a background of blue.
On the same warp I continued with the seachange coloured alpaca as the weft so have a solid coloured scarf in the same pattern.  Both scarves are very soft to touch in a lovely relaxing blue tone.  They are both nominally 1800mm x 230mm weighing 160g.

Handwoven scarf using DMC Natura Linen yarn

I have recently returned from a holiday in France and Spain.  In France I visited Montignac, the town close to the Grotte de Lascaux where the oldest rock paintings are found.  Whilst there I purchased 200g of DMC Natura Linen, colour 08, which is composed of 58% linen,26% viscose and 16% cotton, from which I have hand-woven it into a patterned scarf.
The varying thickness yarn adds an interesting feature in this lovely pastel green coloured scarf.  For those allergic to wool, this 1800mm x 205mm scarf weighing 176g will enhance your outfit whilst keeping you warm.

Hand-woven scarf from Sirdar Firefly #884 yarn

In response to a request from a friend I have hand-woven a scarf using Sirdar Firefly #884 yarn.  This is a 100% nylon yarn comprising two black threads with small coloured squares joining the two threads at regular intervals.  I have used this yarn as the warp and used a similar thickness black wool yarn as the weft.
The  result is an interesting open-weave, lightweight, black scarf with many colourful small squares.  The colours in yarn #884 are reds, pinks, orange and light brown.  The 1810mm x 230mm scarf only weighs 58g.  It wont keep you warm but will certainly add colour to your outfit.

Scarlet coloured Tailored Strands alpaca handwoven scarf

I have just been able to answer a cry for help.  A buyer of one of my scarves from The Artisan Store Fremantle left it behind at a friend's house in England when visiting recently. Thinking she was doing a good turn the friend washed the scarf, and surprise, surprise, it shrunk!  Gentle hand wash only, no machine washing.
Luckily I had some of the same 2-ply yarn left so have hand-woven a scarlet coloured Tailored Strands Australian alpaca scarf in the same yarn, pattern and size as the original. I now have to mail it off to the friend in Queensland.  I have just made two people happy!

Handwoven scarf from Noro Mossa #14 yarn

To continue with the buildup of my stock of Noro Mossa scarves I have hand-woven two in the same pattern using colour #14 with a lichen coloured Australian alpaca yarn as the warp.  The light green, or lichen colour, warp brings out the many coloured bands together with the multiple flecks of colour in the Noro Mossa yarn.
A bulky, soft feeling, colourful scarf, it will look great and be a pleasure to wear.  Both scarves are nominally 1800mm x 2100mm and weigh 168g.

After my adventures with leftover cashmere yarns and a long holiday I have gotten around to weaving again.
I need to build up my stock of Noro Mossa scarves so have taken yarn #16 in this range and woven it  on a mango coloured Australian alpaca yarn.  The Noro Mossa yarn, comprising 52% wool, 16% viscose, 11% mohair, 11% silk and 10% nylon, gives an interesting texture with colourful specks together with Noro's characteristic multi-coloured stripping.  The mango coloured warp lightens up the otherwise dark colours in the Noro yarn resulting in a warm looking and warm feeling scarf for those winter days.  And to make things interesting I wove two scarves on the same warp but with different patterns.  Both scarves are nominally 1800mm x 210mm and weighs 166g.

Multicoloured handwoven Cashmere scarves

Over the years I have hand-woven many hand-dyed coloured cashmere scarves.  I have now used the left-over yarns from all these scarves to hand weave two multi-coloured cashmere scarves.
Both are in the same basic weaving pattern and on a natural coloured light brown Corriedale yarn warp.  In the first I have woven the colours in a mosaic pattern whilst the second is in horizontal strips.  The result is two light-weight, brightly multi-coloured, scarves with the luxurious feel of cashmere.  Guaranteed to brighten up any out-fit. Both scarves are nominally 1750mm x 210mm and weighs 77g.

Noro Mossa #8 with lavender alpaca handwoven scarves

Do you like standing out from the crowd?  These two multi-coloured scarves will certainly do that! The self striping of Noro Mossa yarns is well known and colour #8 has an abundance of bright colours. Being in the Christmas season we think of our relatives and friends in the Northern Hemisphere.  Winter with spring around the corner. To remind them what is coming I  have used a dark brown coloured yarn as the warp (Tailored Strands Australian alpaca coloured mocca) and as the weft used a multi-coloured and textured yarn showing those gentle colours of new life (Noro  Mossa #1 yarn).  The solemn winter scene awaking in the spring!

Tailored Strands royal and ocean blue handwoven scarves

As summer arrives and I look out from my apartment  onto the lovely blues of the Swan River my mind turns to nautical colours.  I have taken the Royal Blue and Ocean Blue coloured yarns from the Tailored Strands range of 4-ply Australian Alpaca yarns and woven two, two-tone, coloured scarves in slightly different diamond shaped patterns.  These two scarves, nominally 1750mm x 220mm  and weighing 145g, may be a bit warm for summer but would be lovely presents for our northern hemisphere friends/tourists, or worthwhile keeping for our next winter cold days.
