Vectis Ori at Perth Upmarket

Vectis Ori had a stand at the Perth Upmarket held  at UWA on 23 September.  This is how my stand appeared at the event.  The scarves are hand-woven and carry the Vectis Ori label.  The garments have been made from hand-woven fabrics and carry the Oz Hiroko label.

Moda Vera Caberet woven scarf

My last hand-woven scarf before the Perth Upmarket tomorrow.  I have used a Moda Vera Caberet #05 yarn, 100% nylon, as the warp and a thin, hand-dyed, green silk yarn as the weft.  The scarf is 1540mm x 200mm and weighs 122g.

A brighly coloured scarf so come to see it tomorrow at UWA from 10am - 4pm.

A flock of sheep

When weaving you are left a short length of the warp which goes through the heddles and is tied on to the back rail, about 20cm long.  I have been reluctant to throw these warp ends away and whilst on holiday in the UK recently I saw an interesting use for them at the Farfield Mill in Sedbergh, Cumbria.

On my grand-daughter's 10th birthday the other day I got her to draw a variety of sheep faces and legs and have since glued them to pom-poms made from my warp ends.  The following photo shows the first eleven sheep made by me and my grand-daughter.  It was a lovely time to spend with my grand-daughter and I love the sheep.  Will I be able to sale them or give them away?  We will see.

Night blue cashmere woven scarf

The third scarf in my series of blue hand-dyed and hand-woven cashmere scarves is now complete. In a night blue colour the scarf is 1830mm x 200mm and weighs 85g. The true colour is a dark navy blue, darker than the photos below show.

All three blue scarves will be on my stall in Winthrop Hall at UWA this sunday at the Perth Upmarket event.

Opal and Sky hand-woven cashmere

After a break weaving yarns purchased on my last overseas trip I have returned to the 2/20 Kogane cashmere yarns from Japan. I have hand-dyed three different shades of blue and have now hand-woven the first two colours in two slightly different patterns.

The first is dyed Opal and is 1460mm x 215mm and weighs 73g. It is a bit shorter than usual but still a wearable length.

The second is dyed Sky and is 1860mm x 205mm and weighs 84g.

Both scarves will be on my stall at Perth Upmarket at UWA on 23 September.

Rowan Summerspun yarn

Another type of yarn I purchased on my recent travels through the UK was Rowan Summerspun yarns #SH121 and SH117. These yarns are 50% wool/50% cotton. I have used two slightly different patterns in hand-weaving two scarves from these two yarns.

The first scarf is using the SH121 yarn and is 1640mm x 160mm and weighs 172g.

The second scarf using the SH117 yarn is 1630mm x 160mm and weighs 168g.

The two scarves are slightly smaller than my normal scarves due to the thicker yarns not going so far, but they both have an interesting array of colours.

Colinette Banyan Popsicle yarn

During my visit to the UK in June I purchased 200g of Colinette Banyan Popsicle yarn, made in Wales. This is a hand-dyed 49% cotton, 51% viscose yarn in cool summery colours.

The finished scarf is 1730mm x 170mm and weighs 180g.

Moda Vera Parade #89

This next scarf is simply hand-woven using Moda Vera Parade #89 yarn from Spotlight. I have used this yarn as the warp and tied the strands together using a thin hand-dyed orange coloured silk yarn as the weft. A brightly coloured yarn, and being 100% soft nylon the scarf is very soft to touch. It is 1700mm x 210mm and weighs 92g.

Black and white cashmere

Black and white scarves have proved popular at the Pelava Pop-up Shop in City Arcade. Consequently I have woven two more using black and white yarn from Kogane woollen mills in Japan. Interestingly, the two different patterns only require a change in the pedal sequence during weaving.

The first is 1830mm x 230mm and weighs 91g.

The second is 1800mm x 225mm and also weighs 91g.

They should be in the Pelava shop within a few days.

Black, plum and white cashmere

Have hand-woven two two-tone coloured scarves using 2/20 Kogane cashmere yarns. Both are woven in one of my own patterns. The pattern is different on each side.

The first is in black and white, and is 1860mm x 220mm and weighs 95g.

The second is in a hand-dyed plum colour and white, and is 1770mm x 220mm and weighs 88g.

Garnet dyed Kogane cashmere

My latest handwoven scarf is in a garnet coloured hand-dyed Kogane 2/20 cashmere yarn.

It is 1740mm x 210mm and weighs 83g. Sorry the pattern is a bit hard to see but the pattern shows circles rather than diamonds so is a bit different to usual.

2 handwoven Kogane cashmere scarves

I have switched to 2/20 cashmere yarns from Kogane which we have hand-dyed.

The first is dyed crab apple and is 1580mm x 210mm and weighs 81g. The colour is more like that in the first photo rather than than shown in the second.

The second is dyed rust and is 1770mm x 205mm and weighs 86g.

Both will be on my stall at Perth Upmarket at UWA on 23 September.

Noro Blossom scarf

Having been impressed with the scarf I wove using a Noro Blossom yarn I purchased on a recent holiday, I was able to pick up the last four skeins of a different colour in Perth. The yarn is 40% wool, 30% kid mohair, 20% silk, 10% nylon, and results in a lovely soft scarf in a blaze of brilliant colours.

The scarf is in colour #24 and is 1820mm x 200mm and weighs 144g.

White and purple cashmere

I have woven two more scarves using the 4-ply cashmere yarns from Knitter's Addiction. The same pattern was used for both scarves.

The first one is in purple and is 1800mm x 230mm and weighs 161g.

The second is in white and is 1810mm x 230mm and also weighs 161g.

These will be on my stall at Perth Upmarket on 23 September at UWA unless sold earlier.

Green, grey and purple cashmere

I purchased some 4-ply cashmere yarns in the closing sale of Knitter's Addiction. I have now woven three scarves using the green, grey and purple yarns.

The first one is in Sangsai Green and is 1460mm x 210mm and weighs 131g.

The second is a grey yarn and is 1700mm x 230mm and weighs 149g.

The third used two of the colours; the previous grey and the purple. The scarf is 1620mm x 230mm and weighs 145g.

The three scarves will be on my Perth Upmarket stall at UWA on 23 September unless sold earlier.
