Teal and grey hand-woven alpaca scarves

Having extinguished my stock of cashmere yarns I have turned to Tailored Strands Australian 4-ply alpaca yarns.
Using the teal coloured yarn as the weft I have hand-woven two scarves in different interesting patterns.  The two patterns both have that Aboriginal art feeling about them which is very appropriate for our recent Australian Day celebrations.  And you can see the different appearances on each side of the scarves.

Both scarves are long, one being 1850mm x 215mm and weighing 165g and the other 1870mm x 210mm and weighing 151g.  So two lovely soft-feeling and warm scarves for the forthcoming autumn and winter months.

Ivy coloured hand-woven cashmere scarf

After a series of bright Christmas colours I have turned to a lovely cool and calm looking colour.  The ivy colour (from the Landscape range of dyes) hand-dyed on a 2-ply cashmere yarn gives you that restful feeling in our day to day busy world.  And this lightweight scarf has that luxurious feeling associated with cashmere.  Also for a change this scarf is only 1480mm x 215mm and weighs 75g.

The true colour is more like that shown in the scarf on the back of the stool.  My camera, or is it me, has problems reproducing the correct colours of green items.  Sorry, but you could always come to see the real deal.

Citrus coloured cashmere scarf

What is 1800mm x 220mm and weighs 88g?   Of course it is my latest  hand-woven cashmere scarf. Patterned woven in an hand-dyed citrus colour this luxurious and soft neck-ware will give you an uplifting feeling as the autumn chills arrive once this hot long summer has passed.

Hand-woven fern coloured cashmere scarf

Green follows red at Christmas so I have hand-woven a hand-dyed fern coloured cashmere scarf for the New Year.  In a nice  diamond pattern this soft luxurious scarf is in a lovely green colour.  Unfortunately my photography doesn't show the lovely dark green colour so you will have to come to see it, or ask me to send you a piece of the yarn.  And for those interested, the scarf is 1760mm x 220mm and weighs 84g.

Primula and orchid cashmere hand-woven scarves

With Christmas upon us I have turned to red; actually primula and orchid hand-dyed cashmere yarns.  From these I have hand-woven two scarves in slightly different patterns and with a check look.  They are lovely light-weight and luxuriously soft scarves that you could wear now in the summer to add some colour to your fashion, or wait for the cooler weather of autumn.  Or they would be great for the upcoming spring for our northern hemisphere friends.  Both scarves are nominally 1780mm x 220mm and weigh 82g.

Yellow and gold hand-woven woollen scarf

Have just completed a very interesting patterned hand-woven woollen scarf.  The warp was a woollen yarn hand-dyed in gold and brown.  The frequency of the gold and brown is such that coloured blotches occur along the weft rather than coloured strips.  The weft was a single thread of varying thickness and coloured yellow.  This variable thickness adds interest to the woven pattern which itself is different on both sides of the scarf.  The scarf, being 1830mm x 220mm and weighing 116g, is a soft, striking accessory that will make you stand out from the crowd.

Handwoven handdyed multicoloured woollen scarves

Summer is coming so I have two lightweight hand-woven, hand-dyed, multi-coloured woollen scarves for the season.  The warp in both is a thin (2-ply or thinner) woollen yarn hand-dyed in citrus, desert pea and wattle.

In the first I have used this same yarn as the weft so there is colour banding in both the length and width.  This scarf is 1700mm x 205mm and weighs 78g.
In the second scarf I have used a variable thickness woollen yarn hand-dyed in the second pot of the wattle dye.  The solid yellow weft helps to make the weaving pattern more visible.  This scarf is 1630mm x 220mm and weighs 87g.

Socks or scarves?

When on holiday in the UK during September I purchased a 100g ball of each of two multi-coloured 75% wool 25% nylon mixes.  These were Rico Superba Poems yarn sold to be knitted into socks!

Not being a knitter I have hand-woven two scarves using these yarns as the warp.
In the first one, the red and blue yarn and colour #5, I used a  hand-dyed multi-coloured silk yarn as the weft and the finished scarf is 1670mm x 165mm and weighs 87g.  In the second one, lots of different greens and colour #3, I used a thin synthetic mottled gold coloured yarn as the weft and the finished scarf is 1430mm x 175mm and weighs 69g.

Scarlet Tailored Strands alpaca scarves

I have finally finished my two scarlet coloured handwoven alpaca scarves using Tailored Strands 2-ply yarns.  Each are in a different pattern so you have a choice of these rich red, soft feeling, alpaca scarves. They are both nominally 1800mm x 225mm and weigh 130g.

Claret and grey handwoven alpaca scarf

After a three-month break during which I moved into my new home and had a three-week holiday in the UK I have returned to do some weaving.  Using Tailored Strands 4-ply Australian alpaca yarn I have hand-woven two identically patterned scarves in grey and claret.
These have always been a popular colour combination and the scarves have that soft and luxurious feel of alpaca.  One is 1680mm x 220mm and weighs 144g whilst the second is 1820mm x 220mm and weighs 155g.

Sandstone handwoven cashmere scarf

At the recent Perth Upmarket I received a request for a longer sandstone coloured  hand-woven cashmere scarf than what I had on display.  Luckily I had some remaining white cashmere yarn so have been able to oblige.  This new scarf is 1920mm x 210mm  and weighs 86g so hopefully this will met the approval of the customer.  A lovely lightweight,  soft touching and smart looking scarf.

Two-tone blue hand-woven cashmere scarf

Ladies, this is what you can buy for that special man in your life:  A two-tone blue hand-woven cashmere scarf. In fact the two colours are sun orchid and mountain blue in the Landscapes range of dyes.  A smart business looking scarf with a luxurious feel that he will be proud to wear.  The chevron pattern will add to that business edge.  The scarf only weighs 79g and is 1800mm x 195mm.

And why not treat yourself to a matching coloured scarf in a diamond pattern?  After all, diamonds are a girls best friend!  This second scarf is slightly longer at 1830mm but is still 195mm wide and weighs 79g.

Stall at Perth Upmarket June 2015

On Sunday 21 June I had a stall at the Perth Upmarket held at UWA.  It was a cold, windy and wet day but luckily I was inside in Winthrop Hall.  Crowds were lower than usual due to the inclement weather but at least we more than covered our expenses.
The stall was stocked with hand-woven scarves, hand-bags made from our hand-woven fabrics and cross stitching embroidery, beanies made from hand-woven fabrics and needle felted animals.   Interestingly handbags were popular this time with little interest in the usual top-selling needle felted animals.

The next Perth Upmarket is scheduled for Sunday 13 September.  Unfortunately I will not be able to attend since I will be in the UK joining four other school class-mates travelling down the Avon canal.
