In May 2013 I went on the Himalayan Express tour arranged by Travel Directors. Whilst in Katmandu I purchased several hanks of recycled sari silk yarn. Off-cuts from silk sari production are reduced to the individual threads which are then re-spun making a thick, but multi-coloured, yarn.
I have now hand-woven two of these colourful yarns using a hand-dyed multi-coloured silk yarn as the warp. The results are two thick hairy and colourful scarves. Not fine silk, but nevertheless, silk scarves.
The first one is 1880mm x 200mm and weighs 227g.
The second one is 1660mm x 200mm and weighs 228g.
I expect them to be on my stall at Perth Upmarket on Sunday 30 November at UWA.

Emerald and lichen Tailored Strands alpaca hand-woven scarves
I have continued to use Tailored Strands Australian alpaca 4-ply yarns in my next project. I have hand-woven two identical scarves in a pseudo-check pattern using emerald and lichen coloured yarns. The interesting pattern is the same on both sides. These are two gorgeous smart looking scarves, soft to the touch and eye-catching. Do the colours match your outfit? Both scarves are nominally 1820mm x 210mm and each weigh 141g
.
They will be on sale at Aspects of Kings Park or on my stall at Perth Upmarket scheduled for Sunday 30 November at UWA depending upon stock movements.

Hand-woven claret and grey Tailored Strands alpaca scarves
My two-colour hand-woven alpaca scarves are proving popular so I have woven two more. I have repeated my own design again but this time using claret and the mid-grey colours in the Tailored Strands 4-ply alpaca yarns. The two sides are in the reverse colours of the pattern so give you the chance of highlighting the claret or grey colours. Both scarves have that soft feel of alpaca as well as giving you that added colour to your outfit. And both scarves are 1830mm x 230mm and weighs 152g.
You can see them at Aspects of Kings Park or on my stall at Perth Upmarket at UWA on Sunday 30 November depending upon stock movements.

Lavender and wisteria alpaca hand-woven scarves
In trying to build up my stocks of hand-woven alpaca scarves I have woven two identical two-colour scarves. I have used 2 Tailored Strands 4-ply alpaca yarns coloured Twilight Lavender and Wisteria.
I have woven them in a pattern I designed myself and am very pleased with the outcome. The two sides emphasis a different colour so giving the wearer a choice of the dominant colour.
Each scarf is nominally 1740mm x 225mm and weighs 143g. They are smart looking, soft feeling scarves which will not only keep you warm but add the extra flash of colour to the outfit you are wearing.
They will be on sale at Aspects of Kings Park, The Artisan Fremantle, Kalamunda Markets or the next Perth Upmarket depending upon stock movement.

Hand-woven teal and grey Tailored Strands alpaca scarves
My two colour alpaca scarves are proving popular at Aspects of Kings Park so I have woven two more. Using the teal and mid-grey colours of Tailored Stands 4-ply alpaca yarn I have hand-woven two scarves in two slightly different patterns.
The two scarves are very similar in size with one being 1830mm x 230mm and weighs 140g, whilst the other is 1890mm x 230mm and weighs 144g.
These two scarves are in popular colours and both feel and look great. They will appear at Aspects of Kings Park or the next Perth Upmarket scheduled for Sunday 28 November at UWA depending upon stock movement.

Two hand-woven alpaca scarves
As a bit of a clear-out I have used my remaining stock of WA alpaca yarns to hand weave two scarves. Both yarns are from Shamwani Alpaca Stud. The first is using a natural light brown alpaca yarn. This beautiful soft yarn makes an elegant looking patterned scarf suitable for man or woman. It is 1800mm x 200mm, excluding fringes, and weighs 166g.
The second is using a natural white yarn which has been hand-dyed with colour Sky in the Landscape range of colours. However, the final colour is much lighter than expected (caused by my error), but still a desirable shade of blue. It is in a slightly thicker yarn but still has that lovely feel of alpaca, and of course, is in a unique colour. The true colour is more like that shown in the photos of the whole scarf rather than the close-up. For the record it is 1700mm x 200mm and weighs 187g.

A natural, and a coloured, alpaca hand-woven scarf
To complete my stock for the Perth Upmarket tomorrow at UWA I have woven two scarves using yarns from Shamwani Alpaca Stud, a WA product.
The first is using a natural coloured light brown yarn. With only 200g of this thick yarn the size of the scarf is restricted to 1520mm x 215mm and weighs 173g. A lovely neutral colour suitable for a gent or lady.
The second is a hand-dyed blue coloured yarn. It was supposed to be the Sky colour from the Landscape range of dyes but is much lighter, and will be difficult to repeat. Nevertheless, I expect it to be a popular colour. A full size scarf being 1810mm x 210mm from a thick yarn it weighs 208g. If you like a thick, long scarf in a beautiful soft blue colour you will like this one.
If not sold this weekend both scarves will be on the Shamwani Alpaca stall at Kalamunda Market and/or the Beaufort Street Market next weekend.

Hand-bags from hand-woven fabrics
Earlier this month I hand-wove two lengths of linen fabric.
Well, some of this material has now been used to make two decorative hand-bags incorporating cross-stitching embroidery designs.
These bags will join six other hand-bags made from our hand-woven fabrics. Each bag is unique and some include more cross-stitching designs.
All the bags have an internal lining and many pockets. If you wish to see the insides you will have to come to my stall at Perth Upmarket this coming Sunday at UWA. You will not be disappointed and, who knows, you may walk away with that special bag which will be the envy of all your friends.

Claret and grey Tailored Srands alpaca hand-woven scarf
A fourth pairing of two colours from the 4-ply Tailored Strands alpaca yarns is of claret and mid-grey. Yet another pattern has been chosen and this one gives a different pattern and colour domination on each side. This scarf has a lovely soft touch of alpaca together with a popular colour combination. It would be an excellent choice to add to your collection of scarves. And for the record, it is 1810mm x 220mm, fringes excepted, and weighs 141g.
See it for yourself by attending my stall at Perth Upmarket on Sunday 28 September at UWA. I will be in Winthrop Hall.

Colourful hand-woven Tailored Stands alpaca scarves
To increase my stocks of two-tone coloured scarves I have paired two sets of colours in the range of 4-ply Tailored Strands alpaca yarns. These are yarns from Australian alpaca. I have then hand-woven the two scarves in different patterns.
The first is using Twilight Lavender and Wisteria coloured yarns. What a wonderful colour combination for a Docker's fan, it's a pity there are not in the Grand Final. Being 1840mm x 230mm and weighing 158g it will not only look good on match days but also keep you warm. And it would not look too bad on other days!
The second uses the Teal and Mid-grey coloured yarns. This is a very elegant looking scarf with the lovely feel of alpaca. There is plenty of scarf to keep you warm, being 1880mm x 220mm and weighing 159g. I suspect that the Teal colour is best shown in the close-up photo.
Both scarves will be on my stall at Perth Upmarket this coming Sunday, 28th September, at UWA.

Spring green hand-woven alpaca scarves
Inspired by the fresh green colours of spring I have woven together two greens, emerald and lichen from the Tailored Strands range of alpaca yarns, to make two different patterned scarves. They are both long, luxurious looking and lovely to feel. Give yourself that fresh looking spring appeal.
The first scarf is 1760mm x 230mm and weighs 152g.
Whilst the second is 1860mm x 230mm and weighs 170g.
Both will be on my stall at the Perth Upmarket on Sunday 28 September at UWA.
