Recycled sari silk handwoven scarves

And now for something different!  What does Cape Town, Katmandu and Esperance have in common?  For me they are places where I  have purchased whilst on holiday recycled sari silk (the  threads of silk from sari offcuts spun together to make a thicker yarn).   Fancy finding such a product  on my recent trip to Esperance!
Now I have two hand-woven scarves using this recycled sari silk on a warp of  hand-dyed silk yarn.  Hairy, heavy but unusual.  They are nominally 1830mm x 205mm and weighing 300g.  I now have to wait for the right person to purchase these scarves from Aspects of Kings Park or The Artisan Store Fremantle depending upon where I place them.

Scarlet alpaca handwoven scarves

Christmas is coming, and red is the colour.  So why not a hand-woven scarlet coloured 100% Australian alpaca yarn from Tailored Strands to celebrate?  This lovely 2-ply yarn produces a gorgeous feeling, and looking, scarf ready for the coming festive season, or even for all year round!

My 700 scarf milestone

Coming up to my 700th hand-woven scarf I wondered what could I weave for this historic milestone.  My favourite yarns are the 100% Australian alpaca ones from Tailored Strands. So!!! I took all the colours I have used, 14 colours, and wove two scarves in these multitudes of colour.  Well, when I took  the finished weave of the loom I was spell-bound, two spectacular scarves.
Now I have to think what to do with them!!  I must keep them in the family, so hopefully my daughter and my eldest grand-daughter will cherish these special scarves.  Sorry Juliette, but I don't think they should  be stored for 15 years until you would be ready to wear one.

Champagne and mocha drinks, no scarves

Ocean and royal blue handwoven alpaca scarves

Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn woven scarves

After spring and summer, what comes next? Autumn of course, and would you believe, as I wove my latest two scarves I was taken back to our Harvest Festivals in the Methodist church I attended in my youth.  The golden browns of the ripe wheat together with the reds and greens of the apples in the baskets of fruit, and the colours of all the other harvested products, came back to me as I wove.  Well, what did I expect using the multicoloured Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn #S418 (40%wool, 25% silk, 25% polyamide, 10% mohair) on a champagne coloured Tailored Strands 100% Australian alpaca.  The bands of colour from the Noro yarn on the "ripe wheat" alpaca colour certainly made an impact on me.

Kureopatora and Tailored Strands yarn handwoven scarves

I seem to have jumped a  season since my last project as my latest scarves are based upon a mature green colour.  Noro Kureopatora #1004, a 100% wool yarn of varying light and dark colours, was used as the weft on a warp of  emerald green coloured Tailored Strands 100% Australian alpaca yarn.  The bands of Noro colours against the dark green gives a warm looking and warm feeling luxurious  scarves.  Nominally 1750mm x 190mm and weighing 150g, these two scarves are sure to please.
