Cashmere scarf from left-overs

Anyone for left-overs?  This time you will not be sorry.  I found the remains of four colours of cashmere yarns purchased several years ago from Knitter's Addiction (since closed) and used in previous projects.  Well now, a very sophisticated and business looking light-weight scarf measuring 1770mm x 225mm and weighing only 78g.  I may be thin but I am still warm.  Perfect for the man in your life, or maybe for yourself?
Oh sorry, I am weaving my left-overs to donate to the homeless.  However, if you would like to purchase for $50, or more, I will sell it to you and donate the money instead.  Is that a deal?

Multi-coloured alpaca hand-woven scarf

What are you doing whilst self-isolating during the COVID19 pandemic?
I am taking the opportunity to use up all those various left-overs from projects over the last twenty years or more.  I am expecting some interesting results.
My first project was with some left-over alpaca yarns.  Eight different colour yarns of various thickness.  The result is a multicoloured scarf with an interesting pattern and scalloped edges due to the yarn thickness variations.  Great looks with a great touch, the scarf is 1570mm x 190mm and weighs 102g.
I propose donating this series of scarves to homeless people.  Alternatively, if you are interested in purchasing the scarf for $50, or more, I will donate the money instead of the scarf.  Is that a deal?????

Hand-woven hand-dyed cashmere scarf

Do you remember the old-fashioned sweet shops with shelves of large screw top glass jars filled with lollies?  These visions can back to me as I hand-wove my latest scarf in an hand-dyed variegated coloured cashmere scarf.  Those barley sugar colours jumped out to me.

Teal coloured hand-woven alpaca scarf

Teal coloured 100% Australian alpaca yarn from Tailored Strands.  What is "teal"?  Teal is a medium blue-green colour and comes from the colour of the strip on the head of the common teal, a kind of duck.  Teal combines the calming properties of blue with the renewal qualities of green.  It is a revitalizing and rejuvenating colour that also represents open communication and clarity of thought.

Pictachio and a mocha

Do you munch on nuts when you have a coffee?  Perhaps not, but I have taken a pistachio coloured Noro Silk Garden Sock Solo yarn (40% wool, 25% silk, 25% polyamide, 10% mohair) and hand-woven it on a mocha coloured 100% Australian alpaca yarn from Tailored Strands.
There are some interesting coloured flecks and yarn thickness variations in the Noro yarn that breaks up the regularity of the two different woven patterns.  With the inclusion of the alpaca warp these are two soft feeling scarves.  With nominal sizes of 1840mm x 205mm and weighing 148g, they will be a great asset in the coming cold winter days.

Noro Kureopatora handwoven scarf

Left-overs?  I remember them well!  My mum always put the left-overs from the dinner the previous evening on the table together with that evenings freshly cooked dinner.  Well, as we always ate the left-overs before tackling that days dinner we could not finish all todays food.  So, you guessed it, left-overs for tomorrow.  Consequently I can never throw away left-over yarns from my weaving projects.
Having hand-woven several different colours of a Noro Kureopatora 100% woollen yarns, I had quite a collection of left-overs.  These have now been hand-woven on a teal coloured  100% Australian alpaca yarn from Tailored Strand.  The various striping coloured bands from the Noro wool in two amazing patterns have given me two colourful scarves.  And a bonus they are long, being 1900mm x 185mm and weighing 142g.

What a summer we have had in Australia.  It seemed that the whole country was on fire.  How devastating the scorched and blackened bush now looks.  But sitting at my loom weaving my latest scarves I was reminded of the beauties of  Australia.
The first scarf brought back memories of the rain forests in the Great Otway National Park, on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, and in the Kuranda region of Queensland.  Then with the second I was transformed to the earthy colours of the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia.  And all this coming from left overs of Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn (40 wool, 25 silk, 25 polyamide, 10 mohair) on a teal coloured 100% Australian Alpaca yarn from Tailored Strands.  These colours jump out from the two interesting patterns used, and the scarves are as warm and cosy as they look.  Each scarf is 1870mm x 200mm and weigh 142g.
