Noro Blossom #9 and left-overs hand-woven scarves

Continuing my clear-up of mainly left-over alpaca yarns I have placed them into groups of similar colours.  I have then used a colour group as the warp and woven a scarf using Noro Blossom #9 yarn as the weft.  The Noro Blossom yarn being 40% wool/30% kid mohair/20% silk/10% nylon together with the alpaca left-overs has resulted in lovely soft and colourful scarves.  The first, using pink/maroon/purple/blue left-overs, is 1890mm x 230mm and weighs 161g.

The second scarf, using light grey/dark/grey/blue left-overs is 1740mm x 225mm and weighs 162g.

It is interesting to see how different the two scarves are in colour despite using identical yarns for the weft.

And now for something different

When you weave you always have some left-overs yarns from each project and I have been reluctant to throw these away.  I decided it was time for a clear-out so picked out all my left-over alpaca yarns, and hey presto, I wove a multi-coloured 9m length of fabric 160mm wide weighing 506g.

You will have to watch this space to see what the seamstress comes up with!

Noro Cotton Kureyon hand-woven scarf

For a bit more colour I have hand-woven a scarf using Noro Cotton Kureyon #21 yarn which is 70% cotton/30% wool.  This item will appeal to those who prefer cotton products and like a bright colourful scarf that will certainly attract attention.  For the record the scarf is 1710mm x 185mm and weighs 179g.

Noro Blossom #14 handwoven scarves

For those of you that like a bit of colour I have woven two scarves using Noro Blossom #14 yarn.  This yarn is a mixture of 40% wool, 30% kid mohair, 20% silk and 10% nylon so it has a range of textures besides colour.   The resultant scarves are bulky feeling, warm, soft and colourful.   One scarf is 1880mm x 200mm and weighs 159g whilst the second scarf is 1700mm x 200mm and weighs 153g.  The first buyer will have the choice of the long or shorter scarf.

Noro Tanabata handwoven scarf

I was sent 200g of Noro Tanabata #7 yarn from a friend in Japan.  Being a blend of 33% cotton, 27% nylon, 17% rayon, 16% wool and 7% silk it is a very interesting yarn as it has a wide range of colours and textures.  The resultant hand-woven scarf is a bulky but soft, colourful and fashionable product 1830mm x 180mm and weighing 174g.  Who would not be proud to wear it?

Scarlet Tailored Strands Alpaca Lace

I have been buying Tailored Strands coloured 4-ply alpaca yarns from Alpaca Plus in Douglas Road, Henley Brook.  They have recently started to stock Tailored Strands 2-ply alpaca lace yarn so I have given it a try by weaving a scarf in their scarlet coloured yarn.
I am delighted with the thinner and lighter product which retains that lovely softness associated with alpaca yarns.  This first scarf is nice and long, being 1920mm x 240mm and weighs 147g.

The discerning buyer can purchase this scarf at Alpaca Plus from this weekend.
I plan to switch to this 2-ply yarn for my future coloured alpaca scarves.

Grape coloured Alpaca Ultimate scarf

On a recent visit to Alpaca Plus, in Douglas Road, Henley Brook, I purchased 200g of a grape coloured 4-ply alpaca yarn produced by Alpaca Ultimate.  I have woven this Australian Alpaca yarn into a beautiful, soft and warm scarf using the same pattern as my previous scarf.  Being 1850mm x 220mm and weighing 174g it will be a lovely warm and fashionable scarf to wear on these cold winter days.

I expect it to be available for sale at Alpaca Plus by the end of next week.

Sky coloured hand-woven cashmere scarf

After a ten-week holiday to the Himalayas and Europe I have returned home and commenced weaving again.  My first scarf is using a 2/20 cashmere yarn hand-dyed Sky, a colour in the Landscape range of dyes.  I have found this to be a popular colour and being woven in an interesting pattern this lightweight and extremely soft scarf will add class for the discerning wearer.  For your information the scarf is 1780mm x 220mm and weighs 86g.

From Fabric to Fashion

A week or two  ago I wove a length of fabric based upon Noro Cotton Hill yarn.

Royal Blue Tailored Strands alpaca scarf

Western Australians will not believe me when I tell them that winter is coming.  Our long hot summer continues well into April.  In preparation for the colder weather that must arrive soon I have hand-woven a smart looking Royal Blue coloured scarf using Tailored Strands 100% Australian Alpaca yarn.   It is long, being 1910mm x 225mm and weighing 160g, so is versatile for many wearing styles, "fibre of the gods" softness and guaranteed to keep you comfortable and warm this winter.  Why not treat yourself or your loved one?

Grevillea coloured hand-woven cashmere scarf

To brighten up our world I have hand-dyed a 2/20 Kogane cashmere yarn grevillea, a colour in the Landscape range of dyes for wool.  I have then hand-woven the yarn in an eight-shaft pattern consisting of small diamonds.  A beautiful, bright, extremely soft and lightweight scarf has resulted measuring 1790mm x 210mm and weighing only 79g.

Noro Cotton Hill featured fabric

My stall at the Perth Upmarket has expanded from my initial offerring of hand-woven scarves to now include unique garments fashioned and made by Hiroko from our hand-woven fabrics.  Her garments have had great success at Upmarket and so as to renew her stock I have recently woven more fabrics for her from which she made more items.  I have shown these fashion items in recent blogs.

I have now hand-woven a new fabric using Noro Cotton Hill yarn (60%cotton/14%silk/14% kid mohair/12% wool) as the weft and alternate strands of Deborah yarn (65% viscose/35% cotton) and Yeoman Yarn Sport yarn coloured charcoal (100% wool) as the warp.  It makes a very interesting bolt of material and is 1900mm x 430mm and weighs 306g.

Garnet coloured Kogane cashmere scarf

Another of my exquisite cashmere scarves, this time hand-dyed in the colour of garnet.  The 2-ply Kogane cashmere yarn results in a lightweight and very soft scarf which feel and look so good.  Hand-woven in a small format plaited twill pattern the scarf is 1820mm x 210mm and weighs 80g.
